De mediabestedingen zijn nog steeds stijgende, maar met de komst van (additionele) technieken van digitale televisie, wordt de kijker de mogelijkheid geboden om televisiereclame over te slaan. Dit vormt een bedreiging, maar nieuwe technieken bieden ook nieuwe mogelijkheden, zoals andere reclamevormen (EPG-banner, gepersonaliseerde reclames en branded content) en interactieve uitbreidingen. Vooral homeshopping biedt binnen de commercie lego kansen. Bovendien kan de adverteerder veel informatie over haar consumenten verkrijgen wanneer hun voorkeuren worden opgeslagen in een uniek herkenningselement.
